From early evening on Friday to early evening today(Sunday) my family, dogs, and I spent the weekend at a cabin. My parents' friends let us borrow it for free. It rawked.

For my science class next year, I have a summer project. I have two choices.
1)Write a three page report.
2)Make a photojournal including 24 pictures, and write a paragraph for each picture.
Though the second choice probably means more writing, I chose it. It sounded like fun, and boy is it. Since we were up at a pretty cabin near a brook with gravel roads surrounded by mountains and meadows, this was a very good place to take the majority of my pictures.

I had the camera with me on a drive we took on Friday night, and just as luck would have it, we saw a herd of elk. It was very neat
<Elk Experience>
On that drive, we were able to witness elk interactions. It was unique to us because many of the elk in the National Parks are used to people, so they don't really care and aren't normally seen in their herds. But this one was pretty far away from most people, seeing as we weren't in the Parks. We stopped the car, and I got out to take some pictures. The elk were in a meadow below the road a little way, and so my family got out, and they and I were standing on the road and talking quietly. The car made some noise too, as did the camera. At first, the elk were really relaxed. Then, with a bit more noise, we accidentally made them slightly nervous. So, the leader of the herd made a bark-like noise, and the whole herd, which had moved a little closer to eachother, gathered in a rather close circle around him. A few of the bucks stood guard while the does and young ones moved a short distance away. They then decided that the possiblity of us being dangerous was too much, so they ran off into the trees. It was neat, we could hear their hooves pounding loudly on the dirt as the entire herd ran.

Very neat experience indeed. It was cool, and I think it'll stick with me for many years to come.

Also, in the cabin, another interesting story. Apparently the owners of the cabin weren't allowed to put in a septic system. So, they got a Destroilet.
<Destroilet>
Now, that may sound funny, but it's freaky. Especially if you've never used a propane toilet before. Essentially, you go to the bathroom, put the lid down, and then it burns the contents of the toilet. If you ever have the chance to use one, I suggest you do, just for the hell of it. xD It's not exactly the best 'air freshener' in the world, so make sure to have a can of real air freshener with you. We were really lucky that there was a bottle of the stuff there. We used almost the entire thing. xP

On our drive on Saturday night, we took almost the exact same route as we did on Friday. We went a little further, but other than that, it was relatively similar. On Saturday, we saw a mule deer, which I was lucky enough to take a few pictures of.
<Mule Deer>
Driving down a road, my parents saw a deer on the road ahead of us. We stopped, and the deer was right in the middle of the road a little ways off, looking at us. It was a mule deer. Why? Because it had mule ears. Mule deer look different from other deer because their ears are HUGE. This one had its ears all perked up, and it was so cute. I took a picture of it from the backseat first through the windshield, then lowered my window and got a few pictures of it from leaning out of the window. It then walked across the road to our left side, and we started driving towards it. I wasn't lucky enough to get a picture when we were closer, but we did get to see it do the typical deer spring. It went across the road in a few of those effortless, graceful hops, then up the slight slope on the other side of the road into the protection of a few trees. It was really neat.

I did manage to get a few good shots that I may end up putting up in DA. There were some beautiful cliffs that I got some pictures of on our drives on Friday and Saturday night. I'll probably put a few of those pictures up, as well as some neat shots of trees and a few animals. Keep your eyes open for 'em! Over and out for now.
